Mon Cheri(e)

A fantastically clever double entendre for the title of this post . . .

When I arrived in Kauai late Wednesday night, I posted on this blog. It was in the middle of the night, and what I wrote didn't come out the right way. It offended some people that I care a lot about, and even though the offense was purely unintentional, I feel badly that it happened. I deleted the blog post to avoid any more misunderstandings. The last thing I want is to have my loved ones being polarized and upset over something that was poorly communicated.

So now I'm in Kauai, enjoying the golf vacation of a lifetime with Dave and Jeff. This island is so incredibly beautiful and the golf is spectacular. On Saturday we played the Prince Course at Princeville - twice. I'm going to make a list of the most beautiful places in the world that I've seen in person. On that list somewhere will be the 6th hole at Princeville, which sits atop a lush jungle slope 130 feet above the bay. The waves are crashing on the beach below, and the sea extends forever. And I made par both times we played it on Saturday.

Church in Kauai is always fun. The local congregation presents each visitor with a "lei" that is crocheted from yarn. There is a little bit of island pentecostalism in the meetings, as the crowd enjoys greeting each speaker with an emphatic "aloha".

Tomorrow we'll play 36 holes at Poipu Bay, which features some amazing oceanside holes. I'll post a bunch of photos when I get back to the mainland. At some point I need to actually hit the beach and get in the ocean. So far it's been all golf, all the time, and it would be a shame to come all this way and not catch a few waves.

For those of you wondering, my wife is surviving at home with the kids while I'm golfing the days away in paradise. It's not exactly a sweet situation for her; I'm lucky to get the chance to enjoy a trip like this. I've got some ideas for how to begin making it up to her when I get back. "My dear", it could take a while.

You really do have a great wife. I can't think of any mom (besides our own) that works harder at this point in life. You are a lucky guy! Can't wait to see the pictures. Post them soon! :)

I don't mind the aloha thing (too much) when it's someone from Hawaii doing it. But when Brother LeVar Cracker gets up and does it after his trip to the PCC, it makes me feel decidedly uncomfortable.

You finally post something good (read 'offensive') and I miss it! Guess it's all book reviews and flowery poetry going forward...
